DSTV remote palavar

I hate it when people unconsciously make you feel bad. I mean, awaken your consciousness please. You can't go about making awkward and very stupid statements that you think isn't deep enough to cut the other person's emotions.
Today, something I always try to avoid happened and how did I handle it? Poorly, terriibly.
I spent most of my day with My Special Someone and my kid brother and had a lot of fun. My fun ended at 6pm when I was set to head home, still, I smiled.
I got home at 8pm and had dinner(boiled yam and fried eggs). I was about to go in and do other unimportant stuff when i remembered I had promised mum a new DSTV remote. I quickly got up and asked kid brother to walk with me, it took less than 5 minutes to locate the dealers of fake DSTV remote in agric, Ikorodu. I was sha cheated, I bought it for #500, this is something that os usually sold for 300 o! Oh well, nobody told me.
It took us another 5 minutes to trek back home and when we had finally gotten home, the worst happened. The remote was cracked, and everybody made me look stupid when they exclaimed together in a chorus "500???" I just gave them this blank look, I was feeling myself that I bought something that was priced at #800 in the beginning for #500 but that feeling was short-lived. We had to go back to the market to complain about the remote control and when we got there, it was a very terrible 10 minute argument.
The fat and shapeless money loving igbo man actually accused me of changing the remote with another. He said I wasn't that which he had given to me. I was in awe. Boy was I confused.
Na so I vex, I asked him why he was calling me a "thief" and what 500 is.
The drama that followed ehn, I tire.
The koko of this long story is I smashed the remote control on the floor when he didn't want to change it and was acting smart. He actually didn't want to give it back, something I paid for o.
I hardly get angry, I surround myself with people who bring out only positive energy in me. I hate confrontations and will always avoid them, but when I engage in any, if the other party is trying to be funny or stupid, I let out the anger of years that I have kept secure in one space in my head.
Hmmmn, moral of this story? Don't argue with a hungry market man, they are worse than the women.

Anthony Okugbe, you were my best friend for a minute.

A minute, 60 seconds.
That is what it feels like. My friendship with you only lasted for what feels like a minute before you decided, no, they decided it was time for you to go home.

Who decided?
Was it GOD, the driver of the car that hit you, fate, life's design?
Maybe I'll never know until I too will die and all of life, my life, your life will flash before my eyes.

If you can see this from your beautiful heavenly phone in heaven, I want you to be sure that I still love you, you were my brother, my friend, my push when I needed a push, my pull when I had no strength to pull. It is sad that everything we talked about, you didn't wait to see.
Can you believe I was still dropping texts on your Facebook private box or whatever they call it, hoping you would see it and come back. Maybe I was the reason why your sister deleted your Facebook page, coz looking back now and reading those messages feels really weird and creepy. Sorry.

I am now a woman, a beautiful woman. I have made life decisions, good and bad on my own and I hope you're at least 75% proud of me.

I'll be graduating this year, and if you were here, I would have squeezed every penny out of you to have the best party. I miss picking on you even though you were bigger than me.
I miss making unending promises to you and making you pay for things I promised you.
Hey, you remember all my trips to your office and how we thought they thought we were dating? Ugh, #childabusealert...lol.

You used to call yourself my School Father, you were more. You were school father, school mother, school brother, prayer partner, baba catholic /MFM, school bank, *wink*
Obiye loved you, you're a lucky baba o.

Uncle Tee, I miss you.
Can't wait to see you again.

How hard is it to move a car? Its not that hard, is it?

After Fumnanya bashed Mum's Toyota, dad decided to create his own kind of sickness called "I never promised to teach Ashim how to drive a car".

Yes o, it was necessary for him to have that sickness, at least having it meant he didn't have to fix another car.

Growing up where I grew up, you just had to learn how to move something, a bicycle, a motorcycle or a car. I knew how to ride a bicycle, thanks to dad and Nonso, I have scars to prove. But I had to up my game sha, "high school graduate and can't drive" wasn't the best tag to have around there.

2009, dad said I had to get into school before I could touch any car. 2011, his story changed to turn 20 first, I turned 20 and that chapter closed automatically. Smart man.

I have decided to take matters into my own hands and learn by myself. I have read a few educational materials on driving and all that comes with it, in fact, I have bought driving sandals, lol, its that serious.

Me in my convertible, cruising in my street. lol

Right now, my only fear is driving in Lagos. Driving in Lagos is spiritual and deserves
God's hands in bringing you to your destination. Am I ready mentally to face the bullies and irate drivers on Lagos roads, the traffic, the careless danfos that always want to push you out of the road, the illegal police checkpoints, the car bashing?

I have to sha start, I'll be driving in my street niyen. lol.

This is Lagos, see why I am concerned?

Its Sunday morning! Let the praise flow...

Good morning my lovelies.
Thank you for making this work. I believe we are all ready to put our praise on today, and everyday.

I woke up with Mavin Sapp's Praise him in advance on my lips and then Casting crown's Praise him in the storm, maybe because God is giving me a second chance to rewrite my story, all I wanna do is praise him.

Remember, Praising God isn't just for
God's benefit, it's for yours.
God doesn't need praise because He's
insecure, we praise God because we're
insecure.

Praise changes the spiritual
climate, it fulfills your primary purpose as a human being, praise destroys pride, makes you become less of you and more of God, praise empowers you, praise attracts God's presence. There's a lot praise can do for you.

Let us take a moment therefore and praise ourselves out of whatever "pit" we're in because praise will confuse the enemy.
Yes, people may laugh at you, especially when they know your problems but praise him in the good and bad times, praise him for your life, praise him in advance.

For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of
God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still
trying to please man, I would not be a servant of
Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

Afara Leadership Centre redefined my life

I found out about Afara in 2013 when Obiye moved in with me for the semester, she was a "bloody squatter".

I always wondered why a group of women would choose to be celibate and not simply join the nearest convent. I thought there was more honour in being a catholic priest or nun than in being an Opus dei member.
Opus dei keh, for what na.

Beautiful view of Afara Leadership Centre

My opinion about these people at Afara was that they were a bunch of women too nice to be in Nigeria. I mean, they would relate with you as if they have always known you, like you're their niece they haven't seen in years.

And that was how they sent Dolapo after me. I thought.

Too nice, very pretty, I used to call her " mothet superior" when gisting with Obiye. I think when they like you, they never let you go, even when you try to show some kind of werey, they will hold you tighter. Yea, they are Nigerians.

So, my perception of them changed, I started to love them, for who they are and for what they do. They are selfless, you'll never meet anyone like them. The centre and the people helped me reshape my idea about life. Now all I want to do is be better, be responsible and be aware of everything and everyone around me. All I've wanted to do since I met Afara is "do''.

Afara Leadership Centre inspires in every aspect of life. Educational development, leadership development, skills, environment, relationship, religion, everything.

I am currently a student of one of its many programs and courses, LDP(leadership Development Programme) and I wish every young girl out there would grab this opportunity with an open heart to learn everything that would be taught.
Its been fun, tho the lunch part is really frustrating. Imagine having great food in front of you but can't completely derive satisfaction because you're eating with a fork and a knife. Even bananas!!! Lol.

Afara offers amazing activities for teens and adults to develop themselves.

Some of the activities in the Centre:
1. Complete Life After School Seminar (CLASS) :
geared towards preparing secondary school
leavers for the challenges of life in tertiary
institutions and helping them to assume the
mantle of leadership in their immediate
environment.

2. UNIV : an international university congress born
out of the desire to help undergraduates
challenge the ills they see in society, not with
violent means but with productive criticism. They
are helped to design and implement solutions to
these problems through community development
projects.
3. Leadership Development Programme (LDP) : seeks
to meet challenge of the dearth of female
leadership. The programme's philosophy is
leadership through self-leadership and social
responsibility. Its theoretical part aims at
energizing participants to be change agents,
instilling leadership qualities and professionalism
at work and providing entrepreneurship skills. The
practical part – leadership in action – aims at
social responsibility through community
development projects and other volunteer work
experience.
4. Study techniques: forum for interaction between
lecturers and students to teach the latter how to
make the best of the academic aspect of their
university years.
Afara also offers weekly recreational and educational activities like the reading marathon, baking sessions, horticulture sessions e.t.c

So I invite you, let Afara redefine you today. Visit Afara and tell your story.

Afara Leadership Centre is situated at 25,
Thorburn Avenue (Off Commercial Av. or off
Montgomery), Yaba, Lagos.

Its Friday again!!!

Everybody loves Fridays, and its quite clear why.
We finally get to let our hair down, get a little naughty, a little relaxed, a little something here and all that there.

Its good we get to rest after a long week of Lola winning all the scrabble games we ever attempted(shhh... don't tell my uncle). A lot happened this week that I am proud of. I finally got serious with this blog, can I hear an Amen!
Samiat published her first story, To Kamaldeen, right here on this blog and she's not stopping, even if she tries to, I won't let her. She's such a great writer and I'm glad she finally stopped saying "I write in my head" and has actually started writing on paper not her head.
It feels great to be a part of what I know would be a success story, picture this in one of the dailies.
"Avril Forte helped me realize I was born to write"...award winning writer, Samiat Bakare.

Here's a push for you today: Never be anything only in your head, take the first step and be that thing out of your head, and by out of your head, I mean in the real world.

Do you believe in Curses?

I walked into my room today, and as usual, they were arguing. Today's argument was about curses, all kinds of curses.

I personally think we all should reject curses when they are uttered against us. Take it back to the sender, yes o, I am Nigerian and I believe if you don't send it back, it will grab you kakaraka! (That means tightly) lol.
I mean, even the prophets of old broke curses abi.

Do you believe in curses or are you untouchable?

To Kamaldeen

Kamaldeen. Its a beautiful name. I don't know the name your father and I would agree on, but for now Kamaldeen seems just fine.
At the moment, I'm in my fourth year in the university and your dad is not yet in the picture. I don't think we've met. But not to worry, he'll be in the picture when you read this. By then I'll be speaking to you from the past.
The beauty of the pen.
Growing up, you would have no major worries aside from your assignments from school, you not liking your new class teacher, you hating your daily "healthy meals". You would be free like the wind and soar any height you wish.
In your adolesence, you would realize that society limits freedom. You would realize that rather than two, there are three scales for judging. The good, the bad, the norm. The norm straddling along the line of the bad but not perceived as bad, simply the norm.
Without even knowing, you may start living your life according to the pattern created by society.
Occasionally, you would have breakdowns. You would begin to notice your attraction to the opposite sex.
You would have conflicting questions on what you want to become.
Who knows, your favorite subject may be Technical Drawing and in the end you find yourself in Art class. Before you know it you are at the university studying law, not essentially hating it but you just may find yourself adapting to like it.
In your dreams, you don't see yourself in the courtroom defending cases rather you see yourself drawing up plans for amazing architectural buildings like the many on your phone; and living the pattern created by life.
Dear son, no matter how much your father and I would love you and try to protect you, the truth is life would not turn out to be what you expected. Life would hurt you and only you can heal the injuries.
You can start by first being yourself. Follow your instincts, they are always right. Have faith in God, he never gives one an ordeal greater than one can bear.
I'm sure your father and I would lay a good foundation in your upbringing, use it as your guiding principles. Don't hate life, learn from her. Break free from the shackles of society and most importantly, be true to yourself.
Your mum.
(yet to be and not in a rush to be)
I love you already.

And May 21st was Ize Edegere's birthday!!!

Latest adult

18 is actually every teenagers dream. You get to tell your mum to let you do stuff, own stuff and be anything.
Not in Nigeria sha. You mum owns you and almost controls you till you're married and even then too sometimes. Lol.
Ize turned the BIG 18 on the 21st of may and H01 girls turned up for her, she's our lovely baby after all.
Shout out to Ife and Pastor Funmi, they like to think they are party planners and they planned the party.

Shout out the my Bunky, the beautiful make up artist, Lola Adelaja of Lollly's makeovers, Gloria, Bukky, Adelola, Busola the clown, Sami smallie, Chidinma, Lilian, Oyinda, Kemi, Dami and all other friends of the birthday girl.
10man rooms rock!

So many Pinnochios

I woke up today to a very harsh weather and I'm sick already and its not cos of the weather.
Omo! People can LIE! Ah!

I'm sick because my stomach can't hold all the lies this one person tells. I mean, its cool to tell a white lie but when you start telling green, pink, black and even colourless lies, there is nothing that can save you.

When I was in my second year in school, my friends and I always did a kind of mini ritual when one of us lied, Kunbi Initiated it. We would call whoever it was the queen majesty and do a little salutation like the Hausa's to her. Lol. Memories.

I always wish I could do this same salutation to this aunty, I mean, she is the Karashika of lies. (Thank you Falz) The queen Liaress.

Anyway, I love listening to lies when I know the truth.
